Something to think about

I've watched "Home"
Although the movie was kinda slow at first,
but it was unbelievably Breath-takingly Beautiful.
Everything is Magnificently Stunning.
btw, I love the Opera song at 1:15:57 - 1:20-45 and when the singer started singing at 1:17:00.

I've watched Al Gore's Inconvenient truth, The eleventh hour, and now HOME.
(I haven't seen Earth, tho)
and I know something must be done.... yes everyone should do something, or maybe stop doing.
But I don't know what.........
Almost everything in life involves depleting the earth of its resources, unless of course you breed trees.
I mean grow trees, how do you say it ? cultivate trees ? and sell the seeds and baby trees.
then probably, you're doing the earth some good.

But the Economy involves selling stuff and when people buy more, you prosper.
and that means you want them to buy more, thus consumerism, thus more digging on earth's resources.

Food Business, Restaurants, Cafes,
Packagings of plastic cups, plastic bag, paper bag, plastic straw, plastic spoons, they're still a waste.
Just take a look at coffee shops and how much plastic cups they're using.
I'm not blaming them, but I'm also looking for alternatives.
Yes there are biodegradable materials available, but they cost more, so most business don't use them.
It's not possible if people bring their own mug, then they'd have so much to bring with them, plates, mugs, utensils, water bottles and after that, they'd be needing water to wash the mug, utensils, etc.
Yes Restaurants can use only mugs and glasses, but what about takeaways ?
some Restaurants even prefer to use plastic cups, coz they're cheaper and you don't have to worry about breakages.

Supermarkets with the plastic bags.
How many times have you bought a detergent refill pouch, put it in a plastic bag,
and when you get home, the plastic bag is already torn and you throw it out.
How many times have you forgotten to bring your own reusable cloth bag ?
New alternative of a biodegradable plastic cost more, so of course people would choose the usual plastic.
But plastics get recycled,
Some just got melted down, releasing toxic gas and turned into smelly black plastic bag or buckets.
so yes they get recycled, but in a way dat's harmful to humans and the environement.

Clothes, Fashion industry
People don't wear last season's clothes anymore because ppl don't want to look outdated.
So they buy and buy and buy more and more and more clothes and shoes and bags.

Electronics are the same.
Take a look at mobile phones,
Everyone wants the newest models and they change their phone as soon as a new model comes out,
which could be monthly.

This is what I see in the everyday lives and even this could go on and on and on.
"faster and faster"
and I don't even know about the Pollutions and destructions caused by big Factories.

What can be done ?
"it's too late to be a pessimist" (from "Home")
One person can make a difference, one person can start a change.

So Let's start by doing the simplest things that we can.
Let's stop consumerism and let's stop wasting stuff.

Start now !

I was watching "The day after tomorrow" the other day.
and I just started thinking, How many disaster movies do we need until we all realize that we need to do something to prevent that kind of scenario. ;p
yes those movies are all fiction, but they're not entirely incorrect, they're based on facts.

But what about Al Gore's Inconvenient truth, or the Eleventh Hour, or Earth, or Home.
They're all Facts, they're all happening right now.

What about all of the "unnatural" natural disaster ?
floods, hurricanes, increasing temperature, etc etc
They're all happening right now.
Caused by us, human, by our ignorance.
by the pollutions from big factories/manufacturers producing more stuff for us.

we need to change our lifestyle.
We need to use less, buy less, waste less
We need to change Now.

What about using re-usable cloth bags instead of plastic bag ?
Yes it's true that it's way better.
But use the cloth bags that you already have !!!
You don't need to buy 7 different cloth bags to match your shoes.
How many bags do you have piling on your closet floor right now ?
See what I mean ?

It's sometimes contradicting, we need the economy to survive, we need to sell stuff to earn money, to give a better life for our family, but by buying stuff, means more production, more using the earth's resources, more waste.
It's kind of a ridiculous cycle really.
One way of doing it is by using renewable resources and biodegradable materials.
Yeah.... we can all use a natural fibre weave bag, but what ?.... it's all just a trend.
Pretty soon, we'll find ways to color it using toxic dye, apply a varnish coat for longer use, add plastic ornaments to bling it. They're all pretty but harmful to the environement.

What about all of those cheap plastic stuff available out there ?
They're toxic to use, they're toxic to the environement, but because it's cheap, we use it anyway.

What about all the electronics ??
People are always getting new technology, mobile phones, laptops, PC, cameras, handycams.
I just can't understand the need to change a cellphone that has a 3 megapixel camera with the one that has a 3.2 megapixel with a different color casing.
Consumerism has gotten out of control, people are dictated by trends and are embarassed when they are not up-to-date.

In the olden times, everything is repairable, spareparts are available.
But now, Older models electronics are no longer repairable because the manufacturers no longer produces the spareparts. By older models, I mean models that comes out 3 months ago.
Greed has taken control.

We need to change how we think.
We need to stop letting the industry tells us what to think.
We need to be in control.
We need to know when is enough.
We need to, otherwise the world isn't going to last.
We're not going to survive the near-future disasters.
We need to do something Now.
Do something, anything at all that will help.
Just start by not wasting more plastic.
That's a start.
What about using less water at home ?
There are tons of things to do.
Just start by not wasting stuff.
We'll start from there for now :)
